“Thank you for calling Chesapeake Energy. How may we help you?”
This simple and friendly greeting is often the first thing a resident living within the area of the Barnett Shale play hears when seeking answers about natural gas production. AskChesapeake.com is Chesapeake Energy’s point of contact for all North Texas citizens with questions, concerns or comments regarding the Barnett Shale. You may submit a question at AskChesapeake@chk.com or call directly by dialing 817.502.5000.
Chesapeake’s Neighbor Relations department, the responsive workforce behind AskChesapeake.com, handles on average about 275 to 300 inquires per week, arriving in the form of phone calls, emails, letters or even, on occasion, a personal visit. With an enormous volume of facts and figures at their fingertips, Neighbor Relations Specialists are tasked with responding to an extensive range of subject areas. Current tracking indicates that leasing is still the number one topic on people’s minds, accounting for approximately 45 to 50 percent of inquiries. But drilling questions are increasing and may soon surpass leasing as the primary need-to-know issue. Land administration questions are starting to rise, too — an indication of the maturing of the Barnett Shale play, as more and more lessors are wanting to gain a better understanding of division orders and royalties.
Neighbor Relations Specialists strive to respond as quickly as possible to each inquiry within 24-48 hours. For some of the more complex issues requiring an in-depth answer, the specialist will either personally research the answer from a vast information database or forward the question to another department with greater expertise in that particular subject area. Either way, our priority is responding to our neighbors as promptly as possible with a well-researched, accurate and thoughtful answer. Chesapeake is fully aware that, as a corporate citizen doing business in North Texas, we are better able to accomplish our objective of producing the clean-burning natural gas that will fuel Texas and the nation for years to come.
