Chesapeake Energy received a permit on September 23, 2008 from the City of Fort Worth to drill a natural gas well on the Thomas site, which is located at the east end of Scott Avenue. The Thomas 1H began drilling on October 29 and after two and a half weeks of drilling, is quickly coming to completion.
Due to the many factors that go into the “rig move,” we are unable to announce the exact day that the equipment will move. However, the rig could leave the Thomas 1H location as early as Monday, November 17, 2008.
Moving the drilling equipment onto the padsite will take one to two days and a police escort will accompany the load. Heavy truck traffic for drilling activities (excluding pick-up trucks) will only be using Scott Avenue between the daytime hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
At the request of the City of Fort Worth, signs have been posted at all intersections along Scott Avenue encouraging residents to call with questions.
The approval of this permit and the development of these minerals is the result of a collaborative effort between city officials, key neighborhood leaders and the neighborhood association.

Currently, Chesapeake has a permit from the City of Fort Worth to drill only one well on this location. At this time, we do not have completion operations scheduled for the 1H.
In order to be a good neighbor, Chesapeake Energy is working closely with the City of Fort Worth as we strive to ensure our drilling operations are as safe and unobtrusive as possible to you, your family and the community. We use state-of-the-art sound mitigation techniques to reduce the sound emitted, in order to stay within Fort Worth’s gas drilling ordinance requirements. Directional lighting will also be utilized on our site as drilling is a 24/7 operation. Directional lighting allows us to aim our safety lights away from nearby residences, yet still keep our workers safe at night.
This privately-owned site will allow Chesapeake Energy to access the minerals of many lessors in the surrounding neighborhood, in addition to land owned by the City of Fort Worth. The City of Fort Worth will also prosper with new funding streams from tax revenues that can be directed toward needed city improvements.
The natural gas produced from this site provides a domestic energy source our nation desperately needs and one that allows us the modern conveniences we all enjoy.

The “Thomas site” is an ideal drillsite located on 33 undeveloped acres of privately-owned land just east of downtown Fort Worth. This location will allow us to produce the minerals of numerous lessors located in the western portion of the West Meadowbrook neighborhood, including the City of Fort Worth's property located north of I-30.
This site is located more than 1,560 feet west of Tandy Hills Nature Center with no surface disturbance to the nature area.

The approved transportation route is I-30, south on Beach Street, and east on Scott Avenue. Chesapeake is mindful of the sensitivity of urban neighbors and always looks for the solution that offers the least amount of disruption.
Heavy truck traffic (excluding pick-up trucks) will only be allowed along Scott Avenue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, unless otherwise necessary. After drilling and completion of the well, Chesapeake Energy will pave Scott Avenue with new asphalt, in addition to any repairs covered under the existing road repair agreement with the City of Fort Worth.
Although many people have inquired about access from I-30, it is not possible. This portion of I-30 is a “controlled access” area and TxDOT is unable to allow access off of the interstate in that particular area.
